Ironically, faith is supposed to teach us how to be humane, but it has lead us to act like monsters, tearing each other apart. Currently, a war is continuing fight that has been on and off for centuries known as the conflict between Israel and Palestine. This war is completely involved with religion because both countries claim the holy land of Gaza. Palestine believes the land is their home, while Israel claims they have a historical religious ties to the land. Instead of peacefully coming to a conclusion, they fight over their holy land. Surprisingly, statements of the Bible have lead these two countries to fight a war for centuries over a supposedly holy land. For example, gay marriage had not been legalized in all fifty states until June 26, 2015. Creating this law took time because many people see gay marriage as a sin to God making it not acceptable. Some churches show extreme hate; in fact, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association stated, “This court is endorsing sin. That 's what homosexuality is—a sin against God...I believe God could bring judgment upon America” (Christian Leaders Slam US Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Marriage, Warn Christians of Looming Persecution). Because people are using God as a reason to hate homosexuals, we know the origin of the resentment is religion. Also, the constant negative comments about gays from church-goers makes homosexuals feel like they do not belong. Even the bible degrades gays by stating, “ If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” (Holy Bible: New International Version, Lev. 20.13). The statement is beyond harsh, and easily deteriorates the confidence and pride of a homosexual. In this case, religion is the monster dragging a minority down with negativity and uncivil commentary . Comparatively in Frankenstein, Shelley, the author, demonstrates that society is the devil because it is making the monster melancholy for being different.
