Redemption In 'The Kite Runner'

If told that “There is a way to be good again” (Hosseini 2004 pg.2), how far would one go to redeem their past and start anew? Amir and P.T. Barnum have to answer this question and try to redeem their mistakes and hopefully save their future. Aristotle's Literary Theory will help prove that redemption can be hard and some may appear impossible, but with the right mindset and great support, anything is possible.
To have needed redemption the characters must have had to fall from grace. In the Kite Runner, Amir does the unforgivable and watches Hassan being violated but the worst part about it was that he ran away, didn’t tell anybody about it and played it off like nothing ( Hosseini 2004 pgs. 75-78). But the fact that he felt that “the real reason he was running, was that Assef was right: Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price he had to pay, the lamb he had to slay, to win Baba”(Hosseini 2004 pg. 77) made it so much worse. During the fall from grace most people that hear or read about it would think that the person could never redeem themselves and even if they could redeem themselves that they don’t deserve to because their sin was that severe. While in The Greatest Showman, P.T. Barnum betrays both of his families (his wife & children and his circus family), after being criticized for not having a real show and or any great performers’. Even though Barnum feels like he is leaving so that his family can have a better life, his wife sings “ Some people long for a life that is simple and planned, tied with a ribbon, some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land to follow what's written but I'd follow you to the great unknown, off to a world we call our own” (Pasek & Paul 2017 Track 9) to help convey that it doesn’t matter whether Barnum is successful or not she loves him no matter what. During this time of the story Barnum doesn’t realize what he is doing to everyone around him and the damage that he is causing. Even though the fall from grace isn’t intentional the path to correct it is, even if the person did the action unknowingly. The fall from grace isn’t because the person wanted the event to

The reason Amir ran away from the scene was because “He was a coward. He was afraid of Assef and what he would do to him. He was afraid of getting hurt. That’s what he told himself” ( Hosseini 2004 pg.77). This cowardice help cause the reason Amir did his unforgivable act. Thought in P.T. Barnum’s case he did it for two reasons. The first reason was that “ His father was treated like trash. He was treated like trash. His children won’t be”( Chernin & Gracey 2017) and the other reason was that he felt that he would never be enough. With these two thoughts in P.T. Barnum’s head, he subconsciously hurt his and caused more hardship for his circus family. That is how these hamartia’ caused people to get hurt and for his people to need redemption. Even though these flaws may give the impression of being hindering these characters do have turning
