When we were little, we would set our dolls up in lines and call them our students, some of us would be the teacher while others act as the students. We looked up to teachers maybe because at the age thats what we want to be when we grow up. After all thats the million dollar question when we are little. What do we want to be when we grow up? From just being a little child all the way to high school some even into college the question is being asked time and time again. Our parents inspire us to be whatever we want to be as long as we are happy.

Thoreau). If we follow that quotes than we know they wouldn 't be living. They aren 't loving what they do, than they aren 't living. If you think about that quote and just read it over a few times, it makes complete sense. If you aren 't loving what you are doing everyday than how are you living. Yes you still are living, but in frustration, hate, anger, and boredom, not loving. One of our goals is to be loved and fall in love. To love what we do. To listen to our parents when they say, as long as you are happy. Happiness is love.

There is an article that surveyed professors and the correlation between satisfaction and money. “For American professors, their direct path shows that income is directly related to high pay comparison satisfaction” (Are You). Have you ever thought about whether you should do what you love in life, or if what you would love to do would be enough to support you or a family? In Gordon Marino’s “A Life Beyond ‘Do What You Love’” Marino discusses that people look to pursue what they love in life, and whether this is always the best course of action. As Marino goes further in his essay, the idea is brought forth that doing what you love in life is not always the rational choice, but doing what is necessary to support yourself and a family, if you have one of course. Marino’s essay has the intended audience of those in the more adult phase of life, as the essay does not particularly address younger readers, who would still be in middle school, high school, etc.…

Are many people doing what make them happy? And do they have the will to hold on to it even though they may face criticisms from society? Many individuals in today's society get judged, discriminated and criticised based on their passions or their lifestyle choices. Some individuals get knocked down from the hurtful words while others block them out and continue to live their passions. Two stories that help to deeply understand this concept are, “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou and “Living Like a Weasel” by Annie Dillard.…

I’m sorry, but I do not agree with your views on Income Inequality. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the top CEO makes 300 times more than typical the worker in their company. That is not just including the employees in the company that make minimum wage, that is the including the whole staff of the company and taking the average pay of those that even have a college degree and higher. The definition of income inequality is the unequal distribution of household or individual income across the various participants in an economy. According to Nicholas Kristof in “An Idiot’s Guide to Inequality,” income inequality continues to worsen, so bad that the top 1% now owns more wealth than the bottom 90% of Americans.…

A theme discussed a lot in poetry is career. There are three poems that discuss working. The poem by Philip Levine is called, “What Work Is” which will sound familiar since the world already knows what working hard is and most people have parents that work. What does it mean to truly live? Living is not just going about your daily life doing everything you are supposed to. Living is the ability to make the most out of each and every day, no matter what the situation is. If you live all of your life doing the same thing than you will never be able to flourish. If you just try and blend in and do what everyone else does, then you will not be able to show off your own unique characteristics.…

Thoreau discusses many ideas, all circling one theme, simplified living. His practice of simplicity may be too extreme for most to adhere to, however it is a valuable guideline. My entire life I have always wanted to do something where I would be remembered positively by many people. I recall always telling myself I was going to become a backup dancer for a famous singer, become a singer myself, or maybe an actress. Better yet, I thought I could have been all three. As I entered middle school, I realized those goals were too surreal to even become the slightest bit possible, mainly since I am located in an area that most people haven’t even heard of. Back then, I was very uncertain about any career goals I have had.…
