The textile workers in the South pursued on militant strikes during the early 20th century. This approach was to strive unity for all those in the textile field in order to have enough force against the mill barons. Because the strike of when workers walked out of their jobs didn’t really work; having mills running again; a militant strike was the only tactic to get the owners attention. Next, the State was thought to be opened but because the state was repressed, it is a closed system. The mobilization had little organizations and faced state violence. At first, the president, Franklin Roosevelt signed a bill where it gave mill workers the right to have decent hours and collective bargaining. As their opportunities was increasing, textile workers became more convinced that such changes are possible. Unfortunately, the programs that provided services to workers failed to get rid of low wages and was seen as coercion. As a result, the workers formed local unions and went against the unfair labor implementation which was the beginning of another mobilization. The access to radio was an open system. The type of available resources for social movements include material, social, symbolic, numbers, and status. For example, one important resource was material where having money was an important element. In order for an organization to be sustained, leaders need to hire professional staff who can put all their efforts to a cause. They also need to pay for office as well as trying to raise money which comes with costs of time and money. Money can also help support staff to be hired in order to answer phones, file reports, or make photocopy materials. Organizers can actually find ways to help with funding of the organization. Some can get celebrities or have elite leaders from other organizations, specifically those who are wealthy and committed to the organization’s issue. A second example is social, where people are resources since they can form an extensive amount of networks. The audiences for instant, are a group of people who can actually bring successful tactics which brings the means of communication. Protests don’t tend to work all the times, at least not by itself, so in order to avoid this, bringing different groups together can form a much more successful social movement organization.
