To help my students reach the goal, I will in cooperate movement into my academic lessons. For example, when teaching my students vocabulary words, I will use movement in the lesson. After students become aware of the meaning of each vocabulary word, the students will play charades using the vocabulary list. The teacher will choose one student (based on alphabetical order of first name) to come up to the front of the room and choose an index card that has one of the vocabulary words written on it. The student will then perform actions to help the other students guess which vocabulary word he or she is acting out. The abstract states that “physical activity is beneficial to children’s health, yet academic pressures limit the opportunities for students throughout the school day” (Erwin, Fedewa, & Ahn, 2013). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of curricular physical activity on children’s reading and academic achievement. In this study, the teachers implemented twenty or more minutes of physical activity per day in their classroom. Each break related to math and reading content that was being taught during that time. As a result of the study, it was verified that curricular physical activity had a positive effect on children’s reading and mathematics scores.
