Even though there have been a few numbers of local production established, such as Laskar Pelangi The Musical, Musikal Sekolahan, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, most of them are not exposed nation-wide and not fully funded, most of the musical theatre community in Jakarta are non-profit organisations, which result in very little amount of audience and the inability to perform with maximum potential. Each person has their own unique interest in art, in a way musical theatre has its ways to mix and match a various type of art, not its genre, but it diversifies within the settings, dance number and type of instruments as an accompaniment. Recently, there has been a lot of international production performing in Jakarta such as, Shrek The Musical, The Sound of Music, and Beauty and The Beast, which has attracted a bigger number of the audience than by local production. Musical theatre community in Jakarta has individually, amidst a small number of people and performed towards a designated audience. As stated by Dr. Shen-Li Lee from Figure8 and AATE (American Alliance for Theatre & Education) there are three parts that encompasses a musical theatre, which are; singing, dancing and acting has their benefits both mentally and physically. Exhibit A, singing is a voice based instrument that can develop memory and concentration, increases spatial and mathematical abilities, enhances creativity and reduces stress as sometimes only music conveys message what we’re really trying to say. Exhibit B, dancing is a body movement that flows along a rhythm for a personal expression, similar to singing it reduces stress level and depression, improves strengths and core balance, which improves flexibility. Exhibit C, as stated by Oxford Dictionary acting is the art of performing fictional roles in plays, film or television and it enables individuals to enhance communication, concentration skills, intensify memory and self-discipline. Acquainted with all three aspects of musical theatre, it is understandable that individuals can have a dynamic lifestyle, which we can prevent several physical illness and no doubt, a healthier one. Third, applying a theatrical performance daily can also contribute to the society as a form of a different type of art and it is something unordinary that what is normal.
