Once a feeling of acceptance has been gained, one can strive for their full potential. One can find this attitude in a center, due to the welcoming nature of these originations. University form centers for a particular minority, for example, an African American or an LGBT center. People take place in judging others frequently, especially for things that are unchangeable. Things such as sexual orientation or race. These centers allow for a safe space where one can express themselves and find support from those with similar struggles. In addition, many of these organizations enable the opportunity of acquiring more information about their identity. These are many of the key factors that attribute the success of a well-governed center. The success of the center relies on how it is operated, in addition to the support of those involved. These centers help promote acceptance and understanding across entire campuses. Outside of the college community, there is a severe lack of empathy and assistance for those not associated what is considered normal. For example, high schools have a severe deficiency of supporting minorities within the student body. Although our focus is institutions of higher learning, continuity from the high school system to the college system could potentially help students transition with ease. Not only would it assist in the transition, but also the presence of identity centers on high school campus could benefit students on a day to day basis. Beck represented the perfect schooling set up to become a dropout. Students who experience bullying are more likely to drop out than those not challenged (Cornell 2012). Not only did Beck face discrimination from his peers, but also his teachers. Perhaps if these practices, found in identity centers, were at Beck 's high school he would have experienced much more empathy about what he experienced rather than being constantly faced with discrimination and judgment. This will be especially important because by the year 2020 the minority races will total half of the counties population (Moore 2010). They have already faced tremendous social exclusion, and the identity centers should assist in joining all the minorities together.
