Once in a winter night, after a long journey in train,I was walking to my home. Working air conditioning in train coaches didn't let me feel the extent of bone-chilling cold outside. But now being surrounded by cold mist and chilling wind penetrating all through my 5 layer of clothes and skin upto the bones, I just had one single wish to get inside my home as soon as possible for which I still had to walk about 1 k.m. While walking at streets that night I saw many men and women sleeping at the roadside and they were not having very thick blankets. When I reached home, first thing I did was turning on the heater. It's a complex problem and it's cause vary greatly. Homelessness is caused person's individual circumstances, Social and adverse 'structural' factors. There are number of personal factors that can contribute towards people becoming homeless. Poverty by birth and poverty by accident, lack of social support, poor physical and mental health, having parents with drug or alcohol addicts.
Structural causes of homelessness are social and economic in nature, and are often outside the control of the individual or family concerned. These include economic being like Great recession of 2008 had rendered large number of people homeless.Unemployment and Poverty. Homelessness is direct result of poverty and unemployment .
Migration is another reason for homelessness. The last time India saw mass rental housing being created in its cities was in the pre-independence era when mill owners constructed townships that served as quarters for migrant workers. Currently more according to NSS data more than 35% of urban population are migrants there is facility available for them in affordable prices. Migration is one of the main reason for homelessness.
