The emotion comes from the stories and experiences that are told when Mrs. Erin Gruwell reads there journals. For example, Brandy’s story “In every war, there is an enemy. I watched my mother being half beaten to death and watched as blood and tears streamed down her face. I felt useless and scared and furious at the same time. But when they come, all they see is a dead body, a gun and a nigga.” These stories are heartfelt and scary at the same time. These students walked out their doors everyday and didn’t even know if they would make it back home. Sure, half of these students might not care about there education but what about the other half? The other half cares. They want to graduate and and go on to college and get good jobs. Education and funding should not be determined on the discretion of race, gender, or religion.
