Counseling practitioners utilizes professional regulations and systems as initial source of reference, of which in any occasion when the conditions are being violated can invite official complaints and disciplinary actions that are potentially serious (Kidd, 2006). Career counselors who neglect the importance of knowing and abiding to such terms can put clients’ welfare at risk by misusing assessment results data, voluntary and accidental release of confidential information.
Career counselors should be qualified with valid licenses and credible certifications that are not outdated. Professionals in career counseling are required to demonstrate basic competencies in eleven areas ranging from career development theory, counseling skills for personal and group, to technological knowledge (National Career Development Association, 1997).
