My College Decision

No matter how much we overthink a situation before making a decision and even make the “right” one, we never have the absolute certainty that the other choice was “wrong”. We don 't get to live the choice we have not made, but we can ponder and imagine how our life would have been if we had made the decision that in the past we thought it was the “wrong” one. Attending a community college instead of a four-year university was not a simple decision, it 's also the first major decision I ever had to make for myself. Most people don 't really see it as a complicated decision, either way, you 're getting an education and a degree in the same amount of time. For me this was something bigger, I have always wanted to attend a University, it had been …show more content…
By going to Century I had to pay, well nothing at all; my Financial AID and scholarship covered everything. This took a lot of stress off my shoulders. Having debt had never been one of my plans, but I knew that if I wanted to attend a university I would have had some. After finishing my Financial AID for Bethel University, which has a tuition of $35,010 per year, I had $19,050 left to pay. To me, it appeared still very expensive and so for my parents. If I would 've chosen to attend Bethel University, by the time I graduate I would probably have around $80,000 or more loans plus interest; just the thought about it scares me to death. Thanks to my decision I don 't have any worries about how I’m going to pay back this first year at Century; this is another reason why I’m content with the choice I have …show more content…
Acknowledging your straight and weakness will help you compare your two or more choices in a decision-making process. Considering costs and not getting over your budget will support your decision by making you feel confident and stress-free. Also having a long term plan will allow you to see if the choice you are making contradicts your future plans or helps them. As Bear Grylls said: “Survival is not about being fearless. It 's about making a decision, getting on and doing it, because I want to see my kids again, or whatever the reason might be”. Making a decision will become easier once you understand your priorities and reflect and consider all your options very carefully, because once you have made up your mind going back is not always easy and convenient. Own up to your decision, work hard and

Other than the costs, it also would’ve been wise of the author to include statistics of how many students who were unsure of their future that chose community college and most of all a survey of students who chose community college due to rejection from a four-year university. In conclusion, author Liz Addison used quotes as well as personal experience to convey her points. Although, she claims that high-school graduates face a rather difficult path to a four-year university of their choice, there was a shortage of effective evidence that hindered her chances of fully conveying her point. Other than a slight difficulty in conveying her first point, she had a decent amount of effective evidence to convey her second point. Addison was capable of conveying her second point, which was defining the truth of community colleges through the usage of personal…

In their articles, “Two Years Are Better Than Four” and “Are Too Many People Going to College?” Liz Addison and Charles Murray discuss how colleges now are much different than colleges in the past. The college experience has changed since people, such as Rick Perlstein, went to college. Even though the college experience is ever evolving, it can still be a very important part of someone’s life. Even if it is not at a “four-year brick-and-mortar residential college” (Murray 229) like many parents and high school faculty push students to go to right away.…

After discussing both community colleges and four-year universities, they each have their own unique traits, but they do have some things in common. The Growing Problem of Student Debt A question that always seems to come up at the dinner table when a senior is finishing their last year of high school is that of, “what college are you going to choose and how are you going to pay for it?” Although both questions are kind of hard to answer on the spot, one is more difficult than the other. Attending college is now commonplace thanks to parents, teachers, and advisors instilling in children at a young age that they have to go to a four-year college if they want a good, stable job. While this is good because it promotes higher education, it also limits the options that high school seniors think about. “By 2020, 65 percent of all jobs in the economy will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school.” (Carnevale, 2014). Students take out large loans for a traditional four-year university because they do not know any other options.…
