A pitch black blanket looms above. Spilling its hydro fury and deafening the lands with sonic cries. Nick. A new lifeline. I just need my daily intake or the madness might flow. I trudge quietly to his room. Knock knock knock. Faint voices are heard on the other side. Faint being the keyword. Barely audible. There’s a click and the door opens. He looks at me with a monotone expression. “Come in,” he says without a hint of emotion.

“We have to talk,” Nick whispers. My eyes narrow in concern. A thick silence sweeps over the room like a tidal wave.

“This is too risky and I don’t plan on being caught,” Nick says. I freeze. “It’s over,” he said firmly. I stand there in silence. The lifeline that connected me here is gone. My world cracks.

I try to repeat it to myself. But all manner of thinking is being pressed down by a creature of pure malice. I am out of energy. My positive thoughts won’t appear. All that comes to me are those two words. It’s over. It’s over. It’s over. I can barely take it. The pain is unbelievably absurd. My mind is in a state of corruption. The stronghold that controls me is crumbling, a prison ripped to shreds; a prisoner breaking free. The sadness within me turns to rage. It consumes me and the prisoner breaks free.

The prisoner is me. My inner self, my inner darkness. The creature within me that wants to ruin all the hard work I’ve done so far. The inner rebellion that I’ve tried to shackle away. Its name is Ofdread. My split personality is now in control. I’m trapped. A prisoner within myself.

I grin in delight. Ready to exact my revenge. I creep into the kitchen and grab the sharpest knife. I lick the knife with glee. I silently walk to the room of Cora knowing that it will be the easiest kill. I open the door and see Cora sleeping peacefully with a faint smile. Probably dreaming about raising a child. How dare she think that I would have a child with that old fool! I can feel Offred screaming in pain, begging me to stop. I creep up to her and stifle her mouth with my hand, slitting her throat in the process. Eyes flash open for a second but lose their light almost immediately. A dark splatter engulfs the room. The red blood spills on my uniform.

She creates a noose out of the wool that Serena Joy used to use. Stained with blood, she lights the bodies aflame with the one spare matchstick that she never got to use. She stands on a chair and sticks her head through, kicking the chair out from underneath her in the process. Immediately the weight of gravity presses down on her. The fire begins to consume her body and the house along with it. Spreading slowly but surely. She recalls all the past memories of her time in this house. The people she met and the events that occurred. The biggest regret she has is that she never got to see her jewel ever again, and with that, the remaining life within her fades into

The first quote I chose was, “I bought a dozen volumes on banking and credit and investment securities, and they stood on my shelf in red and gold like new money from the mint.” This quote is when Nick is explaining his house and talks about how he has books on the shelves on investments and other things. He says that they stood there like new money from the mint. The reason this is, is because he wishes to become rich on his own and make more money by himself. It also explains to us that he is a very ambitious person because he wants to make a name for himself and succeed in life.…

I move with a single-minded purpose now, heading towards the door of my room. Twisting the knob, I push it open and poke my head out. Across the hall, Derek is mirroring my movements, a single finger pressed against his lips. He closes the door with well practiced ease, reaching a hand out to me. I grab a hold of him, feeling the warmth of his palm slide into mine.…

I had gotten so good at hiding how I really felt! Just slow down, I told myself. He won’t find out. Guiltily, I hunched away from his gaze, my hands shaking with fear and apprehension.…

I've been incarcerated for all of two hours, 43 minutes and 15 seconds, but I can already feel my skin losing its fervour, my hair losing its hue and my spirit losing its conviction; I dream of sweet reprieve. I've been told that my spell will befall before I am aware of its existence, I pray that to be true. At this point, I have little memory of the outside world, all I know is this keep. I've contemplated ending it, but I scarce have that coercion over myself. Suddenly, the tedium is broken, a dulcet tone rings out, one that would have brought my ears to their knees, had they the faculty, the sound of my acquittal, the school bell signalling first break.…
