There comes a time in every person's life where they learn to appreciate people who have helped them in the past. Whether their help made a big or small contribution to your life, you learn to appreciate it and them. It is that epiphany that I makes me connect with “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein so much. This age old tale about a tree and it lifelong adventure with her little boy. “The Giving Tree” proved such strong emotions from me because it makes me realize how blessed I am.
The strong symbolism in the book is easy to read and easily relatable. In “The Giving Tree” the strongest symbol is the tree. The tree in this book is the provider upon reading the book I associated the tree with mothers. In the book when the tree talks it is referred to as she. “Come, Boy,’ she whispered, ‘come and play.”(Silverstein) The tree also talks to the boy in a in a motherly manner by telling him to come and play. I will soon be going off to college and starting a life of my own so I probably won't have that much time with my mom any more. So that is why I should make this a special one for both me and my mom so we both have memories to cherish. I also want to try to keep good contact with her throughout my college career because she is the most important person in my life. Also I am her only child and once I am gone she could feel lonely and I wouldn’t want that to happen if I could prevent it by giving her a call. I love my mom and I never want to take advantage of her like the boy in the story did. That why I feel as though this book has let to my own metamorphosis in not only the way I treat my mom but people who have help med in life in general. This is the point I that Silverstein was trying to make and I am glad I discovered this before it was too

In the book the parent being the tree gives the boy unconditional love throughout the book never keeping count. So she gives and gives and gives, never expecting anything in return, never asking for anything back, and never reminding the boy of all she has given up for him. For example when the boy needs a house after already…

The Lemon Tree, written by Sandy Tolan originated from a radio documentary that lasted forty-five minutes which was conducted by author Sandy Tolan which was featured on Fresh Air. This interview was then converted into the book in which Mr. Tolan pursues the nostalgic and heartfelt story of two homes and the history of two families which are the center of the story, and up to their present day trials and tribulations. The Lemon Tree symbolizes several things to the various parties involved in the story. For Dalia’s family who move into the Khari home, it first serves as a reminder of the previous owners of the dwelling which her family has thus taken over. Every time things start to get rough between the two of us, or we start to travel down the path that lead to our suffering, my mother finds her forgiveness and squeezes onto it with her life. Sometimes, my mother still reads me poetry.…
