For instance both societies use history as a way to learn and as an example. In our society, history has taught us many things, including to give all individuals equal rights than others. Meaning in both societies the inhabitants have the same responsibilities and agenda. For instance, in both societies you have to go to school, go to work, and take care of your family. There is even a House of Old in The Giver’s society to care for the elderly, also known as a retirement home in modern society. However, in our society parents have to provide for family, meaning they have to make enough money to buy food and afford a home. While in the novel’s utopian society a family’s payments are nonexistent. As an example, a child’s stuffed animal, bike, and even their clothes are given to them from the Elders. As an endnote, both societies try to be as perfect as perfect as possible to have the least amount of problems as possible.
