The Four Anthems In Cyndi Lauper's Kinky Boots Musical

Improved Essays
Kinky Boots is a musical directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and written by Harvey Fierstein. It is based on a true story. The medium in this music would be the performers, the chorus/music and stage. Kinky Boots musical was first premiered in Chicago in 2012. While we saw it in London, it was first premiered in London on September 15th, 2015. The musical is about a man who just lost his father and he is trying to save his father’s shoe business. He forms a partnership with a drag queen and they start produced a line of high heel boots.

One main, obvious thing that stood out to me the most was how well it was performed. I’ve only ever seen one play and it was Wicked, at DPAC. So, being able to see a world-renowned play in London made me star-struck. I also found it very interesting that they performed this once a day, twice on weekends for over a year. It is truly amazing what these people can do. Another things that stood out to me was that the actors were actually transvestites. I did some research and looked at the program, and the actors/actresses were all playing a transgendered role. I am not a musical expert, but what I saw last night was amazing. The director did an amazing job with the light work and the stage was set up perfectly. I liked the fact that the props were reversible and could be used in difference ways for different scenes. Everything flowed flawlessly. The message that the writer was trying to communicate was acceptance. At one point in the film a character gave another character a task of “accept someone for who they are.” This is believe is the overall message of the performance we watched. Kinky Boots made me feel motivational, happy, and energetic. The music, lights, and singing made me have the energy and happiness. The overall message made me feel motivational and

The four anthems were composed for the coronation of King George II. Each anthem had texts taken out of the Bible. The four anthems were The King Shall Rejoice, My Heart is Inditing, Let thy Hand be Strengthened, and Zadok the Priest. Zadok the Priest was the most popular, and now has played at every British coronation since then!

It is hard to describe the elements in the anthem. Zadok the Priest has exerts taken out of the Bible and put into the lyrics. I am not a professional when it comes to evaluating music, but I do know that the melody, harmony, and rhythm are all in tune. The beginning of the anthem starts out slow and start moving faster until the whole choir comes in. I believe that the message of the Handel was to have a very upbeat song, which it is. Numerous times the choir, says “Rejoice!” and I believe that makes it a very happy and cheerful song.

I absolutely loved this anthem. It was very beautifully written and beautifully sang, especially by the choir of Westminster Abbey. Hearing this anthem makes me feel very patriotic, and I would absolutely love to hear it in person. The personal meaning I mostly take from hearing this anthem is patriotism. In America, I come from a very patriotic family, so hearing this anthem makes me feel very happy towards the country of England. If I was a citizen of England I would be very proud to sing this with my

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

There was nothing spectacular about the choreography. All the acting or dancing was the same to mimic the acting and dancing in the movie. Of course some actions were different because they did not have the same set design and props but pretty much everything seemed to be a very truthful adaptation of the musical. All of the actors were very similar in basically wearing the same exact costumes as the actors in the musical where wearing, which made it extremely easy to distinguish who was who in the musical. The call backs and vulgar remarks that started at the beginning of the musical continued throughout the whole show.…

The chant melody is from the setting of the Gradual Viderunt Omnes from the Mass for Christmas Day. The original piece features a soloist that performs the psalm verse which alternates with a choir that sings the respond. This verse is extremely ornate, and the respond is also very melismatic. It is the only part of the Mass for Christmas Day that is in mode 5. Because of its highly melismatic nature, it was viewed as an appropriate candidate for future composers to base new works off of with ample room for interpretation and adaptation.…

The National Anthem was written by Francis Scott Key in September 1814 as a poem called “The Defense of Fort M'Henry” and later became the National Anthem in March 1931. The poem was written after Key noticed the American Flag still flying even after the British attack on the Fort and only represents Tolerance and Freedom in the first stanza. Tolerance is the ability to put up with something, even if you don't necessarily agree with it, and freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants. With that being said, the National Anthem does not represents tolerance and freedom.…
