The Five Practices Analysis

The purpose of this research was to analyze the development and implementation of “The Five Practices” for effective leadership, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). Through my research, I concentrated on each practice weighing its effectiveness and how it was successfully implemented. Each practice defined critical aspects that are essential to being effective in a leadership position. As I reviewed each practice, I related its application to my own style of leadership, what areas are lacking and how can I implement this concept to be more effective. I have discovered that even though the practices are separate, they work synergistically in application. Each practice complements the other in the way we lead people. We need to encourage enthusiasm and passion through sharing and commitment. A leader needs to be willing to take risks to open new doors and provide new challenges in capturing our vision, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). As leaders, we need to insure that we are setting the example, by establishing the framework to capture organizational goals. As we follow the vision and overcome challenges we need to recognize accomplishments, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). By showing appreciation we are strengthening our commitment to move forward and overcome barriers that exist in all endeavors. The result of this research has provided new insight into effective leadership. Being a leader is more than just directing people, it is a passion and a commitment that comes with a lot of responsibility. It is imperative as a leader to understand the importance of your actions.
