The solar eclipse was seen within a narrow 70 kilometers and 110 kilometers wide going across fourteen states across the United States including Oregon, North Carolina, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Idaho, Georgia, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina. The first sighting from the United States was around 10:15 am and then moved eastward through Salem Oregon. The longest ground duration was two minutes and 41.6 seconds at about 37’35’0’’ N 89’7’0’’ In Giant State Park just near Illinois. The seventh longest extent took place in Kentucky. This was the first total Solar Eclipse for southeastern United States since 1970.

This lucky part of Earth experienced a full minute and fifty seconds of totality. The actual centerline of the eclipse path hit solid ground a full six seconds later, and plunged Lincoln Bay and Depoe Bay into darkness for one minute and 58 seconds. It only took about two minutes for the shadow to race up towards large populated cities if Dallas, Albany, Corvallis and Woodburn. Idaho is the highest point with Borah Peak and was a good place to be for the more adventurous people who wanted to see the eclipse from the best view possible.
