The colonies took after the Caribbean model of human labor, such as disallowing slaves to own guns, create contracts for their labor, and not allowing slaves go anywhere without their master’s permission. In the following year, another law was issued punishing the marriage between a white woman and a black slave. The law forced her to become a slave alongside her husband, and their children would be slaves as well.
