After the fight that Jeannette’s mom and dad had. The mom got up with the kids and applied for a job at the Battle Mountain Intermediate School and was hired on the spot because she had a teaching degree. Her mother hated teaching because her own mother was a teacher and pushed her into getting a degree in that so she would have a job to fall back on if her plans on being an artist failed. She was so angry that her mother might’ve been right all along. The only thing that really unsettled me was when she was trying to Miss Beatty that she was capable of disciplining her students. She stating to yell at Lori and went so far as whipping her with a wooden paddle in front of the whole class when she wasn’t even misbehaving. It also made sad that Lori accepted the punishment because her mother didn’t want to upset the other kids in the class. Even though she was trying to prove point I still think it was unfair to hit Lori or any other kids because that didn’t go anything like misbehaving. Even though her mother got a job teaching, money was still scaris in the household. Her father would take the whole pay check the mom brings home. This mad me extremely mad reading this because her father is acting like nothing is wrong with taking the money but he’s using it for his research and drinking habits and then the house is left with no food yet again. When she tried to hid the money or forgetting her paycheck just to keep it away from him, he actually went to the school and personally escorted her to the bank so she could cash it. When they were out of money yet again the father asked the kids where their lunches were and they said there was no food in the house. The father blames the mother the reason there was no food was because she kept the spending money for art supplies. However, its not even the mothers fault but the fathers when they went to cash in the check the father brought them to Owl …show more content…
They moved again because of the whole Billy incident. Billy started following Jeanette around like a puppy dog. He told everyone the he was her boyfriend and even gave her a ring that used to be his mothers. What angered me the most was when Billy showed her something funny and it was his father that peed himself. She didn’t think this was funny at all because he told her that her father was the same as his. I didn’t think this was funny because I am speechless to even think a child her age seeing a grown man’s penis right out in the open. After this some of the kids in the neighborhood were playing hide and seek and Billy was hiding in the same spot as Jeanette. Billy leaned in and kissed her, which was disgusting to her and tried to pull away. Since she couldn’t get away from his grip she bit his ear. Due to her denying Billy he came over to her house with a BB gun and started shooting at everyone. In self-defense they took their father’s gun and fired it at Billy. In the same night the father said they are going to

Unlike Jeannette I never moved around a lot in my life so maybe that’s why it so strange to me, but both she and I have some things in common. We both don’t seem to like our distant relatives, both of our mothers can be hypocrites, saying stand up for what you believe in and then reprimanding us about it, and both of us have been and are tricked by our fathers; in her case standing up to her racist parents and digging a foundation for the Glass Castle that the family only really wanted to use as a garbage disposal. Her family also has issues with pride just as much as mine does, only in a different way. The Walls were and are the poorest in any poor neighborhood they move to, but they bring their misfortune upon themselves. Honestly they could…

Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

Most people adopt the traits and views of their parents, but when those views do not align, what happens to the children? What happens when a father is a hardcore Bears fan, but the mother is a diehard Packers fan? For me this divide pushed me away from football. I was the athletic child in the family so naturally my parents strove to gain my allegiance to their respective team. Without being able to choose a team without offending one parent, I never had a team to cheer on, eventually causing me to be ambivalent towards the sport that many Americans spend their Sundays enjoying.…
