Do the police really protect and serve everyone in the community they work in or do they only protect and serve people of a certain race, ethnicity, or religion? The ethical issue I choose to deliberate in this paper is racial profiling. The reason I selected racial profiling is because we have realize it’s an immense problem practice by law enforcement in the United States today. Technology has allowed us to see what actually occur with our own eyes, instead of only hearing about it. Racial profiling is a greater issue than what we originally perceived it to be. What is Racial Profiling? Racial Profiling" refers to the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual's race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (ACLU). Criminal profiling, generally, as practiced by police, is the reliance on a group of characteristics they believe to be associated with crime (ACLU). The reason I choose racial profiling is analyzing the process of cultural identity in the United States today. …show more content…
The slave patrol consisted of white men who would police plantation to look for escaped slaves, but if they didn’t like the way they looked they would still interrogate and harass them. Black codes were assigned to laws that were specifically for African American male which targeted them to work for free to work off their sentences. The war on drugs that started in 1982 that focus on the stopping drug use and sales through harsh sentencing , has sentence more black men to prison compared to the white men for the same exact crime
