Rome and Juliet was written in 1597, 419 years prior to The Dressmakers War, which was published in the year of 2016. The time difference between when these two works were created, affects the writing styles and techniques used. “Modern English follows a familiar pattern: Subject (S), Verb (V), Object (O).”(Pressley) “Shakespeare used a great deal of SOV inversion.”(Pressley) The difference between the sentences structures used in these two time periods is the reason for the difference in the sentence structure between them.

Women are damsels in distress waiting for their man to save them, cleaning for the man, or acting a certain way for men. Women are historically written as inferior to men. “All modern societies evolved out of agrarian societies. Before the Industrial Revolution, the male endurance value and physical strength translated directly to political power.” (Holliday) Romeo and Juliet, was written in this era of men with power which was the influence of the way men in the story spoke of women. In Romeo and Juliet Sampson says, “Tis true, and therefore women, being the weaker vessels, are ever thrust to the wall.
