To start off, sailing and yachting are both rooted around a boat, but the crews of each play very different roles. Sailing involves a maximum effort by the crew. They operate the boat to reach the end location. Trimming the sails requires the effort of a crew to keep the sailboat pointed in the direction of optimal wind conditions. Tacking the wind to maximize the speed of the sailboat is a technical move that requires a strong effort from all involved. In sailing, the mood of the vessel is more serious and dedicated to completing the task. Sailing requires the effort …show more content…
Sailboats rarely carry anything that is irrelevant to the journey or task. Sailboats are often smaller, narrower vessels that cannot waste space by housing unimportant items. Becuase they are so small, the gear that is loaded on a sailboat is essential to the operation. This includes: the sails, ropes, vhf radios/satellite telephones, signaling flares, personal flotation devices, and a distress beacon. Very little technology was found aboard traditional sailing vessels, but that is not the case today. The trinkets and toys of much larger yachts are not present on most sailboats. By contrast, the yacht is like the playground of the sea. Yachts are huge masses of fiberglass, often the size of mini-mansions, that just happen to float on the water. Yachts contain what is required for them to take a journey, and they can also bring fun toys with them. In addition to their necessary gear, such as engines, navigation instruments, a captain, and all of the other equipment required for a voyage, most yachts sport more advanced, luxurious toys aboard their decks. Often times, these vessels house small garages capable of holding life rafts, other boats, and various water toys. In keeping with the theme of fun and relaxation, yachts are notorious for having bars, hot tubs, mini golf, lounges, and cinemas. These features of entertainment truly define yachts as being of a more luxurious, higher class to their more …show more content…
Sailing recruits more of the technical and physical ethusiasts in the boating world. Sailors often have to be very knowledgeable of the mechanics of the vessels, how to fix something if it warrants repairs, and overall how to maintain the boat for longevity. Sailors are very physical and can endure long stretches of activity without rest. This skill comes with years of practice and training. Because of the lack of shelter aboard most sailboats, sailors have to deal with anything Mother Nature throws at them. Sailors are often extroverts (lovers of the water) who are okay with being outside in hairy(extreme) conditions where the worst can occur. They are often gritty and tough people because of all they have to brave (endure) out in the open sea. On the contrary, the lifestyle of the person who lives or spends time on a yacht is much different. They live a life of luxury, and surrounding themselves with people who do things for them. These people indulge themselves in rich cuisine, (often) basking in the sun's glory in (of)an exotic harbor. They can be as relaxed as they want to be. When the going gets tough and the wind is blowing a gale, the yachter can just pick things up and move indoors into their lounge areas and leather lined couches. They might sit by the bar and or watch some satellite television. Yacht-goers have a much more relaxed and casual environment aboard their vessel and enjoy luxurious
