The recruiter for the northern Coyotes, a group that smuggles people across the border, was Don Moi, who was very well-known and trusted in Veracruz. The first family that approached him about this was the Bautistas. It would cost them 20000 pesos each, which was very expensive for them. Don Moi promised them that he would lead them, which is what convinced them to go. They got loans and sold some of their land in order to pay for this trip. In Yuma, they organized a BORSTAR unit that would help with any search and rescue efforts. “They immediately began to patrol by helicopter, four-by truck, and ATV. Sometimes, the helicopter ferried the agents and their small all-terrain scooters in by air, and they dropped into the danger zone and sped to the rescue,” (Urrea 212). By doing this, they are able to help more illegal immigrants get the help that they need and either be allowed to stay in the United States, or be deported back to Mexico. I agree with this because it is not right to let someone die just because they were trying to start a new life for their family.
