American Dream The idea of an American dream has had an influence on both Americans and the rest of the world for the last five centuries. The definition of the American dream has been debated long before it was even an organized term. To begin it was the idea that a group of Englishmen could have the freedom to worship the way they chose without being afraid of persecution. Then as America expanded, the American Dream was woven into political ideas such as Manifest Destiny and other means of making America stronger. Though the definition has changed through the times, the American dream has always symbolized freedom, opportunity, and the pursuit of happiness. My American Dream is to have an extraordinary life.
