9/11 Narrative Analysis

The idea of a narrative is to tell a story, the events occurring on the day of September 11, 2001 will provide an opportunity to relay my feelings, moving beyond the initial pure and basic anger at those responsible for such a desperate act. The image shows two emergency responders in the cloud of debris left by the collapse of the Trade Centers and what drew me to this picture is what they must have been talking about. The questions and issues I initially considered included: the loss of life; the tremendous devastation; and are there more survivors, where these possibilities could only be confirmed by talking to the individuals in the picture. As two fully loaded commercial airliners crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the gasoline from the air craft eventually broke the structures and they collapsed, killing thousands of victims and causing wide spread injuries.The picture of the two firemen who appear to be males and wearing traditional protective uniforms and shielding suggest that the picture was taken 1-2 days post event, where I suspect the distance to the crater that was left behind does not appear to concern or bother them. Also, from my perspective they do not appear to be on alert, fearing secondary attacks where after the initial attacks there was fear that there would be additional coordinated attacks and responses in the city, but I believe that their relaxed postures relays that they are out of immediate danger and can fully take in the …show more content…
My limited knowledge of the event, which has evolved through access of documentaries, and news shows have provided me with a foundational understanding of the attack and the pivotal roles that the emergency services played both during the attack and in the aftermath of the event. As I review the picture, it suggests a comradery between the two firemen in the devastation and terrible loss of life.In viewing the picture and seeing the dust which is literally setting on the site, a series of questions emerged in my mind including: how can you respond to people who are willing to kill themselves in supporting terrorist beliefs? Is there any true protection from those who would murder children and women to draw attention to themselves and their cause? No, it is my belief that you can only work to minimize the damage and prepare for the worst case scenarios. As the image shows, there are people who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to provide help and assistance both during and in the aftermath. I believe this is one of the greatest aspects of this image, where regardless of ethnicity, gender, our cultural beliefs, we were all Americans on that day, responding to the needs of their fellow Americans who were senselessly cut down by a foreign threat. The
