Online dating has been around for more than twenty years. Almost immediately after the Internet started becoming available to the average American, online dating has been accessible. Match.com and Kiss.com have been given the honor of being said to be two of the first online dating sites. The same person registered them both in 1994. Match.com is still one of the most popular online dating website choices. The dot-com crash in 2001/2002 helped create more of the websites for people to meet each other for love (“History of Online Dating”). Two popular ones are OkCupid.com and PlentyOfFish.com (POF). The largest difference between theses two websites is that OkCupid.com analyzes your personal profile through a series of questions that then can be compared to a suitor with a match percentage. The creators of OKCupid were Harvard graduates; the site uses the data it collects for research on the website, OKTrends.com. These are the same men who created the website SparkNotes.com, which is an online version of CliffNotes. POF also has questions to answer, but they don’t dive as deep.
