The Controversy-Round House Of Worship

Improved Essays
I chose to write about a worship service I experience not too long ago at the Bahá'í House of Worship. One of my friends is of the Bahá'í faith. This friend I found to be one of the most spiritual individuals that I know. However, as I travel down my own spiritual path, faced with the spiritual bankruptcy of a contemporary society, I seek out individuals who are on a path to spirituality. Nevertheless, one of the great benefits of this relationship is sharing conversations with him as I work out my own life map of spiritual values. One Sunday morning while visiting Chicago, I decided to attend church with him and his family at this amazing and beautiful House of Worship on the shores of Lake Michigan. To this day the visit has stayed with me. I can remember having such an up-lifting spiritual experience reflecting on the inclusiveness of the service. The Bahá'í faith is a monotheistic religion with three core principles that establishes the basis for Bahá'í teachings and doctrine: the unity of God, that there is only one God who is the source of all creation; the unity of religion, that all major religions have the same spiritual source and come from the same God; and the unity of humanity, that all humans have been created equal. …show more content…
Comparing it to my own faith Baptist, it was like a regular “church service” with some few exceptions; one being that the person delivering the talk or sermon was not a paid clergy. There were opening prayers, readings from the Bible, the Bahá’í Sacred Writings and a Gospel Choir provided the music. He gave an exemplary speech on Progressive Revelation in which he said the Messengers of God are those special Beings who reveal to humanity the Will of God. They are like the perfect mirrors that reflect the light of God, and include Jesus, Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Krishna and

Many similarities arise between the novel 1984 by George Orwell and the movie The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross. Although one tells a story in the 1900’s another tells a story in a more modern age. Both portray a dystopian society that some countries may find ideal, but others may consider a downfall to society. The similarities between the novel and the book include the themes of authority, poverty, and an uprising of the protagonist as a rebel against authority.…

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

I definitely felt a connection with the members because we all shared similar views. There was nothing truly different in our beliefs. The pastor was very relatable in his examples. He made sure he used experiences people understand and related it to the passages in the bible. To answer my initial question, a non-denominational church does have differences when compared to a Haitian Baptist church.…

The video I watch from the Kaleidoscope episodic directory was on religious unity. The episode was specifically about the possibilities and limitations of religious unity in our day. The topic was presented from to very different points of religious views, the Christians and the Baha'is. Offering a well-rounded discussion about what unity means to them and if they believe it was possible. The Baha’is teaching is that all religions are one, and that we truly only worship one God, and religion is always progressive and always changing.…

Everyone practices their religion differently and for some, they do not practice religion at all. Regardless of that fact, everyone performs rituals even though they may not all be related to organized religion. Facing adversity in life is inevitable and some of us have unique ways of coping with adversity. I interviewed five people and asked them what rituals they perform when they are having a difficult time and need balance in their life. Out of all the people I interviewed, everyone chose to have some kind of self intervention.…

I therefore must demonstrate to others the importance of having Gods’ love within my life and within the lives of others. I must be able to listen to others and their needs and be there for anyone whom may need me, despite what their need maybe. If I can succeed now with this measure, through my academics here at the University of Mobile, I know that I can succeed with any career path that I chose for myself in this life. This allows for me to include my faith in God from what I have learned to demonstrate to others that our faith in God is what grants us the strength that we need to follow the correct paths for our lives. It also allows for me to realize that God is in complete control of my life and that without His guidance I cannot ultimately demonstrate to others the importance of His Word and love within my life.…

On Wednesday I got to meet with Morris Reed at the Manor. At first I was super nervous because I am not very good with talking with adults and usually stick to hanging and helping with the kids, but after talking with him I gained more confidence in getting to know adults. He taught me how easy it was so just carry a simple conversation and learn more about people. It was really cool to hear his stories about being a teacher, but the thing that really stood out to me about him the most is his relationship with God. He shared with Abbey and I about how each day he sets a time aside to spend at least forty minutes in prayer for his whole family and also for our college.…

Going into this experience I was not really sure what to expect, however what I took away from it will be a key reminder for me many years to come when discussing other cultures faith and devotion to Jesus. Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…
