Hook: Chicken Farming: a topic that seems funny at first, but how funny is it really?
Bridge: Chicken farming , a topic seems to get almost no attention, is a very gruesome and cruel practice. For example, in an article exploiting this business it states “Most egg-laying hens spend their lives crammed in spaces so tiny they cannot turn around or spread their wings. While chickens raised for food have more freedom, they face horrifying deaths on assembly lines”(USA Today 7). Chicken are forced to spend most of their time crammed into a very small cage, and then are followed by a horrific slaughter once they have completed that stage. Many companies say that they are humane to draw in customers but really, how realistic is this?

Cramped cages are something that need to be banned for the sake of chickens and animal cruelty.
2. Elaboration
a. For example, in the article, Free the Hens, Costco!, it states“According to the industry itself, each hen in a battery cage is given less than 9 inches by 9 inches in which to live her entire life, crammed into a cage about the size of a file drawer with four or more other hens”(Maher 27).
Cages stop a chicken from living it’s life, and torture the life that it does live.
Therefore, chicken cages should be taken away because of their cruel and unnecessary treatment towards innocent chickens.
b. To follow this further, in the same article as used before, it states “That's why multiple investigations into battery cages document animals with deteriorated spinal cords, some who have become paralyzed and then mummified in their cages It's so common that the industry has a name for it: cage layer fatigue. It doesn't happen to animals that are allowed to move”.(Maher 27)
These cages have uncalled for affects on chickens that will permanently damage them, and could even be fatal.
There is truly no need for them, and the extremely harsh conditions that they come
