In 1767, John Dickson published the letters from a Pennsylvania farmer that exhorted the Americans to rebel against the Townshend duties. The Boston Massacre in 1970 heightened the tension following the knocking of a soldier to the ground that saw five people being shot; the conflict was brought to a much higher level with the burning of the Gaspee in June 9, 1772, which was to show the open defiance to the British rule. The year of 1975 saw the holding of the provincial congress for the preparation of a state of war. The slogan, “Give me liberty or death” was synonymous. Later on, the governor of Massachusetts enforced coercive acts against the colonialist through the use of force.

Alexander Hamilton got the support of federalists while the Democrats supported Thomas Jefferson. Alexander Hamilton supporters were mostly the strong federalists in the North while Thomas Jefferson’s support was more from the south democratic republicans. Alexander Hamilton wanted to sway the power to the rich and the elites and therefore got more support from such people. Thomas Jefferson, on the other hand, was in a position to influence the farmers and have their support as well as the regular people located in the South and the North.
