Westward Expansion and Manifest Destiny The Westward Expansion was a big story in the U.S. It began along the East Coast and continuing until it got to the Pacific. Before the Americans won the battle against the Britain, some settlers were already moving west into what today is called Tennessee and Kentucky. And some parts of the Deep South and Ohio Valley. Because of this, it was believed to be said that they were destined by God to expand their territory. This lead to the westward migration. First, it lead to the Westward Expansion. Then, it lead to the Mexican-American War, because it supported the idea that the Americans deserved all the land more than the Mexicans did. The God-given destiny had made it allowable for the Americans to take the land that the Mexicans had away from the Mexicans with no consequences. That exact attitude that the Americans had against the Mexicans is the same exact attitude that the settlers had against the Indians during the move west. They thought that the Indians were so much lower, they did not think that the Indians were as superior as they were. The indians were moved and the land was to go the the settlers who deserved and would use it better. Because of this fact, the the thought of the Manifest Destiny is what helped caused the western expansion of, what is now, the United State of
