Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays as a winger or striker for Real Madrid. He has also been playing for the Portugal National Team until 2015, when he was released. He helped the team to secure their qualification for the Euro 2016 tournament in summer.

He joined Real Madrid after a transfer from Manchester United in 2009. The transfer fee was $132 million, making him the most expensive player in the history of soccer. Ronaldo ranks second among the world’s soccer players with the highest salaries. He makes $40 million annually. Samuel Eto’o ranks first.

Career Beginnings

Cristiano Ronaldo began to play soccer at only age 8. He played with Andorinha. He signed with Nacional in 1995, when he was 10. He then signed with Sporting Club de Portugal. He scored 2 goals in his sporting debut. He signed with Manchester United. He agreed to a 1 year contract worth $12.24 million during the 2002 to 2003 seasons.

Slowly rolling out their new treasure, Ronaldo’s talents, the team only allowed him to play toward the end when they were assured of winning. His first goal with Manchester United was in November 2003. He was voted the FIFPro special young player of the year in 2005. He signed a 5 year extension with the team worth $31 million. He became the highest paid player in the team’s history.

He earned numerous awards in the 2007 season, for instance, the PFA Players’ and fans’ Player of the year awards. He became the team captain in 2008. He led his team to the Champions League finals, where they beat Chelsea. He left to play for Real Madrid in
