While the world believed that Germany and Nazi’s were evil, this novel shed light on the pure and innocent children who was not consumed by the hatred and evil so quickly. Bruno’s innocence prevailed through his countless number of questions being asked throughout the entire film. Bruno’s ignorance made him believe that the camps were filled with happy people in huts, with children playing games. This leads me to my essential question which is how is the risk of losing innocence in a child related to their surroundings? The scene of the two characters holding hands throughout the chaos serves as an allegory to them holding onto their innocence and their strong friendship[ as they are forced to march to their death towards the gas chambers. At the end of the scene, there is only silence as It shows all the ‘striped pajamas’ being hung on the racks. It gives a moment of silence for all the innocent people that died by the hands of the Nazi, expressing feelings of extreme pain and fear.
