The first major case of Stroop’s brutality was with a local editor of a Social Democratic newspaper. Fechenbach was shot and killed under the command of Stroop.
In 1935, Stroop was promoted to commander of an SS unit in Hamburg. He was sent on a course to learn more about SS leadership. Within the course he developed a true understanding of the Nazi Party. Himmler trusted Stroop and placed him in command of the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto.
On April 16th marked the first day of liquidating Jews from Warsaw ghetto. However, Jewish resistance grew strong and fought against the intruding German forces. Some Jews armed with guns and makeshift grenades, managed to hold off the German soldiers, ultimately, the liquidation of the ghetto failed.
Jews hid away beneath found making it challenging for Stroop to successfully liquidate the ghetto.
