There are many testimonials praising the benefits of vaping as a way to quit smoking tobacco. The method is by adding nicotine, the main addictive chemical in tobacco, to the vapor. Most smokers who started vaping did eventually quit cigarettes, but this is just merely a trade of smoking tobacco to inhaling nicotine infused vapor. Quitting smoking has caused some people to praise vaping, claiming that it is a safe alternative to tobacco smoking. Others hear the claims of vaping and rush to get a set, continuing the cycle. What fails to happen is that people only see an improvement on the outside. They do not consider about the effects on the inside of the body. Two other chemicals used in vaping are propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. Propylene glycol is hygroscopic, that is, being able to absorb water. This can dry out the mouth and nasal linings, causing nosebleeds and increased thirst. The lungs are also affected, becoming inflamed and dry. Vegetable glycerin leaves a film on the lungs and esophagus, making people have asthma like symptoms. Both of these substances can deteriorate the lining of the lungs, leading to infections. These are only the top shelf quality of vaping supplies; lower quality materials can have other, more harmful chemicals than those mentioned above. With so many home brewers wanting to earn extra money by making their own liquids to vape, other chemicals can end up in the mix; a few of these being formaldehyde, toluene, and even lead.
There are many dangers entailed with vaping, and the companies backing it have convinced many smokers and non-smokers of the benefits comparing to cigarettes and the like. What has yet to come is the true dangers of vaping. Studies show an improvement compared to tobacco, but only an immediate difference.
