The defendant would have to be able to prove that committed the crime within the stature of the law. In these situations, the goal is avoiding legal actions by claiming that the other person brought it upon themselves. Basically, the defendant must prove to the jury that he acted to save his life. Under this if the person can prove they acted in self-defense the defendant would not need to see the inside of a court room. The Stand Your Ground law can be beneficial in many cases such as rape and home invasions. If a woman is put in a situation where she must exert brutal force against a perpetrator to save her life the Stand Your Ground law will protect her. Rachel Barezinsky and four of her friends trespassed into Mr. Davis’s yard in the means just to conduct a childish prank. The girls were just investigating the mystery that lurked around the neighborhood. Children would walk by and whisper to one another about witches living in the home, since it was kept in such harsh conditions. As the five teen girls were leaving the yard Mr. Davis came out and shot Rachel Barezinsky in the back of her head. According to the article, "Stand Your Ground" Laws Are a License to Murder, “Police said the girls were nowhere near the house—they were, in fact, driving away—when Davis opened fire with his .22-caliber rifle.” The girls had already left the property and in no way harmed or threatened Davis’s life. In regard, to the incident all Davis’s could say was "I regret that (Barezinsky was shot), however, I would ask, why was that teenage girl engaging in delinquent behavior?" Through the Stand Your Ground law and the NRA’s License to Kill law Davis was charged with assault and then soon after the charges were dropped. The charges were dropped because based on the Stand Your Ground law if a person is to trespass onto your property you no longer have a duty to retreat.
