Now in comparison to this, according to the official ACT website, the average composite score in the whole state of Alabama is a 20.3, which is 8.7 points lower than JCIB. Not only does JCIB provide students with more chances at scholarships, but it also gives students the skills required of them later on in life. At the JCIB program, students, with or without knowing it, are being prepared for the future that lies ahead of them. According to the principle of Shades Valley High School, Mary Beth Blankenship, the mission of both high schools, Shades Valley and JCIB, is to, “prepare students with the skills necessary to become college and career ready” (“Mission Statement”). This statement stands true from the many lessons that students learn at the school. At the JCIB school, the students have to face many challenges from the extended essay to internal assessments. Although these are tough challenges that the students have to face, they teaches them many invaluable lessons. One of the lessons that is taught to the students is never to give up. At this school there are many times that students are overwhelmed, but similar to what happens in the real world, they do not give up when faced with challenges. This gets them prepared for the duties they will receive later on in life. Along with this lesson, the JCIB school also teaches them to ask for help from their peers or teachers, which builds the students social skills, as well as their relationship and communication skills. In addition to getting your children prepared for the future ahead of them and getting exceptional standardized test scores, when your child goes to the JCIB program, he or she are more likely to succeed in many advanced classes. According to the JCIB homepage, in the school year of 2013 there were 52 AP scholars, 16 AP scholars with honors, 33 AP scholars with distinction, 2 national merit finalists, and 3 AP national scholars. Due to the fact that there were only 65 students that year, that means that nearly all of the students, if not all of them, got recognized for at least one achievement. Not only does this look good for colleges, but it also looks good on résumés. Because of this, your child will have more of an advantage in the future, and this may also help your child get more opportunities to receive scholarships. Despite the many
