I am part of the first generation in my family that was born in America. My parents journeyed from Dominican Republic to Lowell twenty-nine years ago and I learned why because of the trip my family and I took to their native home four years ago. The education system isn’t as great as it is in America, real jobs and careers are very difficult to find and maintain, and the law is corrupt and not enforced. My parents came to America because it’s known as the country of opportunity. People from all corners of the earth arrived on American soil to make something of themselves and their families, but who did they become? What is the American character? While navigating through the country, he makes positive and negative discoveries about what Americans have lost, maintained, and gained. For example, Bryson observed that Americans receive everything they long for, they don’t maintain their possessions, and live in the best country on Earth. Since Bryson had the privilege of traveling the country and I haven’t, we have different revelations on the American character. Based on my knowledge of the Americans in my hometown, Lowell, MA, I agree that Americans do obtain what they’d like. There are so many opportunities for any type of person in Lowell to do what they please; one can get a job at the career center, go to school at UMASS, live in the famous Lowell Mills, recite a poem at Brewed Awakening, skate at Hadley Park, go to the gym at Planet Fitness, watch a baseball game at the Spinners, and so much more. I disagree with Bryson on the idea that Americans don’t manage their possessions. In downtown Lowell one can find the cobblestone streets, mills, and other aged prized possessions that Lowell takes pride in today. Lastly, Bryson discovered that Americans believe they live in an amazing country and I agree. Lowell is so diverse that one can find at least one thing, person, or business from almost every country in the world, so that shows that for some reason they or it has decided to remain here, which wouldn’t be true if they disliked the country. After learning about both Bryson and my American ideology, what is your opinion on the American
