Animal Testing
Animals should not be used for testing or experimentation. Animals used in these tests are treated cruelly, go through painful and stressful experiments and are likely killed at the end of the experiment. There are a number of alternatives we can use that are cheaper, quicker and more accurate than testing on animals. Ninety-four percent of the tests occurring on animals are not relevant or accurate and do not prove that a product is safe for humans just because it worked on the animals. Animal testing is cruel, inhumane and painful. The AWA only covers five percent of the animals used in experiments, stating in the article Animal Testing 101 from PETA,“an animal is defined as any living or dead dog, cat, nonhuman primate mammal,

There are a number of cheaper alternatives that many scientists can use to make medical discoveries. “Animal testing is time and resource consuming and cost far more than non-animal testing.” (HIS) Scientists spend billions of dollars per year, just putting animals through procedures that may or may not help advance us in the medical field. The National Cancer Institute had a research budget of over two billion dollars. The National Institute of Health had thirty one billion dollars to fund their cruel and often bizarre experiments that we have known for decades don’t lead to cures for humans. There are different alternatives that can be used, yet there is animal experimentation to this day. “Colorado State University and North Carolina State University exposed dog 's genitals to powerful radiation in an attempt to induce erectile dysfunction, most of which did not contract this, and were later sexually manipulated then killed and dissected.” (SIRS) Imagine a little puppy forced under radiation, so that humans could figure out how to get rid of erectile dysfunction. Some dogs could not even survive the harmful radiation. “In vitro, Micro-dosing, artificial human skin, computer models and micro-fluidics [are just some examples of alternatives that] are far more relevant and accurate compared to animals.” (ProCon) Three dimensional cancer cells, made from human cells, mimic human disease and allow researchers to test treatments more efficiently and effectively. This is reason number two why animals should not be used for

Studies aided by animals are helping scientist develop new therapies for premature babies to help their lungs and air-flow. Animal testing has aided in helping increases the amount of surviving children suffering from leukemia from four to eighty percent in the last fifty-three years. Another major discovery currently giving people real, growing, and fast hope is new treatments being discovered, by scientists and physicians at Duke University, to treat glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Just months ago patients with GBM, who had little hope of surviving, now have a realistic chance of living a long, pain-free life. Just like those affected by GBM, millions of others affected with cancer, a disease, and/or broken bones all have the chance of researchers and scientists developing new procedures or medicine to give them a fighting chance.…

Testing on animals is also a lot more expensive and non-practical than alternative methods. (Animals In). “Some people, including some scientists object to the practice strictly on ethical and moral grounds, refuting or rejecting any scientific evidence that animal testing is helpful to humans.” (Judson 12). However, groups opposing the cruel treatment of animals were influential in getting regulations passed to protect welfare of animals.…

A tumor that grows in a mouse is not the same as one that grows in a human (Geddes 3). Human skin works differently than animal skin (“Ask” 1). Human cells are likely to behave differently in a tiny mouse than in a human body (Dawn ch. 6). We need to test on living things because humans are so complex (“Should” 2). If the tests work on animals there is no guarantee that it will work in humans because of the differences between humans and animals (“Should”…

One example includes skin allergies on pigs. It can only predict human reactions by 72% , whereas cell-based alternatives predict human reactions 90% of the time(Alternatives to Animal Testing). Another test on pregnant rats allows scientist to detect 60% of the chemicals and drugs that are harmful to the developing baby; the cell based alternative has 100% accuracy. Other alternatives like in vitro testing can produce more relevant results than animal testing because human cells cad. On the flip side, just because a product is safe for animals, does not guarantee it is safe for humans.…

Most animal tests fail/have problems. “The majority of animals used in biomedical research are killed during or after the experiments,” and “many suffer during the studies.” Animals aren’t required for testing There are alternative testing methods that can be used instead of animal testing. Vitro testing, glass testing, has more relevant results because we can use human cells which will be more effective than testing on…

The efficacy of animal models is low. The FDA reports that nine out of ten experimental drugs that pass in animal trials will fail in later clinical studies [6]. In cancer trials, the translation from animal models to clinical cancer trials had less than 8% success. This is due to the limited ability of animals at being able to represent the more complex processes surrounding human carcinogenesis and physiology [7].…

However, there are many individuals who believe animal testing is beneficial and should remain in our society. In the article, “The Truth behind Animal Testing,” Shany Sun argues that “animal testing plays a vital role in industries and research such as in the first stages of pharmaceutical trials.” In Suns opinion, the benefits outweigh the negatives because of the “medical knowledge gained from this experimentation.” In my opinion, the United States should limit the testing on animals to creating vaccines for harmful viruses and cures for different forms of cancer. The FDA should create stricter guidelines for scientific research insuring the safety of the animal and preventing unnecessary pain inflicted to that animal.…

For decades we have used animals to test our various chemicals and products to find out if they are safe for us, but should we really continue hurting animals for our own gain? Animal testing should be banned, for it is stripping away animals’ rights to remain safe and unbothered, and there are many alternative ways to test human products that don’t cause harm to animals. First and foremost, banning animal testing would keep animals away from abuse and other forms of mistreatment. Animals deserve the right to live in their natural habitats and to be safe. These animals, for instance, rabbits and guinea pigs (which are most commonly used in the U.S.) do not deserve to be poked and prodded and injected with various drugs and poisons, blinded with cosmetics, or cut open just to test how safe a product would be for a human.…

This person awaits their fate of being the next to be taken out of their cell and be strapped down to a table to be infused with various chemicals or to be cut open while still conscious. This is not a scene from a horror movie, but the actual life of ill-fated animals that were captured or bred for the use of animal testing. These animals are poke, prodded, and tortured for the sake of science to better improve man kind, but is science actually worth the never-ending suffering…

In their minds, they’re thinking that animal testing has been here for many, many years, so why put an end to it now? Others think, “animals cannot have rights because animals don’t respect human rights” (Mur, 31). Although this poll was taken around eighteen years ago and things may have changed since then, it still need to be put on the table. Animal experimentation has made many breakthroughs in modern medicine since it’s been used, but is it really worth the millions and millions of helpless animals that scientists imprison, test on, and murder every year? As many as a million animals are stuck inside of small cages in American laboratories at this moment, scared for their lives after watching the previous animals get tortured and then immediately killed after they were tested on. Almost every animal that goes through the testing experience has not and probably never will feel what it’s like to be outside in the grass, running around freely in the sun, nobody restraining them from moving, nobody sticking them with endless needles filled with things that neither humans or the animals…

Many people believe that animal testing is the right thing, and it helps humans, but many people also believe that it is cruel and not right. These people think it is wrong because the animals are treated cruel and the results of these tests are not accurate either. This cause serious problems later on when people use these products because the people who sell them do not fully understand what they can do to the HUMAN body.…
