The author is trying to show that even though these women went through so much pain, sickness and even death that in the end they still were able to have hope and find happiness on the plains of Texas. This whole book is a compilation of 16 pioneer women and their stories and view of how life was in Texas for them and their families. Each women gives a unique life story and voice how they went through times of happiness and even great sorrows at times.
