Children can be harmed so much by the television if they watch too much. Watching too much television at a young age can lead to children having life issues at school, and at home. “Viewers learn the aggressive attitudes, and behaviors depicted in the programs they see” (Wartella 3). In one fourth of television violence a gun is used, and seeing those weapons can activate aggressive thoughts in the viewers (Wartella 4). “Prolonged viewing of media violence can lead to emotional desensitization toward real violence, and victims, which may result in callous attitudes and a decreased likelihood that desensitized individuals will take action to help victims when real violence occurs” (Wartella 3). Some violence has humor added to it, so the violence isn’t as real. Which is bad because someone might not be as affected by a crime (Wartella 4). “Viewing violence may increase our fear of being victimized, leading toward self protective behavior, and an increased mistrust of others” (Wartella 3). Children that see violence if it’s real or fake can develop symptoms of PTSD. Nightmares, Anxiety, fear of being alone, and school absences can also occur because of television (Schlozman 1). If a child has a fear of things, then they might not be able to function if they did not have any issues with fears.
Television has a negative impact on society. Children have growth issues, stereotypes depict people negatively, and violence is shown too much it can become too normal. If television becomes a constant in life than these effects can happen in everyday life. Television can be a source of fun,
