Public health specialist, Hayley Hamilton, has studied this. Hamilton (2015) has taken data on 5,329 teenagers. In order to keep accurate statistics she has analyzed teens between the age of 13-20. Hamilton (2015) found that 19% have been cyberbullied in the past year. Cyberbullying is more powerful through social media because it is public. Guza (2014) suggests that this is due to the fact that an argument on social media is witnessed by everyone. Since social media is public, one insult can be amplified just because it is broadcasted for othersto see. One incriminating photo can be shared with one click with irreversible damage. These hurtful ideas can be started by one, but compounded by many through social media sites. For teens, there is no separations between the real world and online life. If teens have issues with others in person they are very likely to bring it online. The days of having the courage to say something to someone’s face are gone.
