Teenage pregnancies are getting higher and higher amongst thirteen to nineteen-year old’s. What can be done in order to lower teenage pregnancy rates? Teenagers are taking part in unprotected sexual activities and they are ending up pregnant at a very early age. Many teens are not ready for the type of commitment that raising a child would takes. The pill is one of the most common methods of birth control followed by condoms. The pill would prevent the teen from either ovulating or it can cause the uterus’s lining to thicken so that the male sperm would not be able to reach the egg. One important part about the contraceptive pills is that they must be taken every single day at the same time in order to insure the best protection. Condoms go over the male reproductive part in order to prevent pregnancy. It ensures that the male sperm cannot enter the uterus. Condoms are great because not only do they prevent pregnancy but they also protect against sexually transmitted diseases. There are also some other types such as the patch and shot. The patch is placed on the female and it releases the same type of hormones that the birth control pills release to prevent pregnancy. The patch is nice because the female only has to place it once a week instead of having to remember to take a pill every single day. The birth control shot is a shot that a female can get to prevent pregnancy also. The shot can be taken once every three months and is as effective as birth control. It releases the same hormones that the contraceptive pills do but with the shot only 6 out of 100 females got pregnant in a year. In order to make sure students are fully aware of the dangers of unprotected sex their high school and their family should work together to ensure teenagers are receiving the education they need in order to become successful save adults. Sexually transmitted diseases are very dangerous and are becoming very common in teens so the parents should be ready to educate their children about those dangers. If teen age girls would be able to make their own decisions about going on birth control and contraceptives then not only would the teenage pregnancies decrease, but also teenage girl’s success in school and college.
