For example, there are not parlor walls that people treat as family as shown in the book when Mildred states “‘The uncles, the aunts, the cousins, the nieces, the nephews, that lived in those walls.”’ (41). Also, people today do not play roles in programs on the television. Mildred spends her time being in programs. For example, when the novel states, “‘Now, don’t get angry!’’ “‘Who’s angry?”’ “‘You are!”’ (43). Mildred is playing a part in a program. Throughout the book many examples of reckless driving are demonstrated but one of them that stuck out to me was when Mildred stated, “‘Sometimes I drive all night and come back and you don’t know it. It’s fun out in the country. You hit rabbits, sometimes you hit dogs.”’ (61). Even though there are not a lot of people today that purposely hit animals, there are occurrences in which people do. Also, people tend to go drive fastly, and reckless when they are upset. Although this may seem to help people relax and calm down, it puts other people’s lives in danger. Lastly, suicide is also a key concept that ties together today’s world with their society. It was very shocking to read “‘We get these cases nine or ten a night.”’ (13). According to “Practical
