Modern educational systems in the United States encourage students to conform to the status quo and to never challenge the way things are done. Students attend classes of little real world value, kids either become disillusioned with learning or lose their imagination through conformity. Many classes discuss artistic works, but never consider that there can be more than one meaning or deeper purpose to be gleaned from them. Ignorant parents contribute to this issue by incorrectly answering questions and by forcing their belief systems upon their children.
Religious private schools and a choice number of public schools refuse to teach scientific topics including evolution and abiogenesis. Without the insight provided by these topics, students can be discouraged from entering scientific fields. The problem is not mathematics, the problem is not giving students the option to choose whether or not they want to take it. Students interested in math should be able to take as many math classes as they see fit, the same is true of other subjects. When children are passionate about a topic, more retention and understanding occurs. Teachers are largely responsible for the death of the imagination in many situations. Many teachers are underqualified and only do their jobs for the money. Students notice the lack of interest immediately and tune out or grow to hate the subject they are learning. This problem is largely due to the lack of high paying teaching jobs. Low paying jobs discourage qualified individuals from joining the teaching profession. This leaves two general groups of teachers, the ones who do their job because they love to teach their subject and those who took it as a plan B career
