The food in the arena is as abundant as food in District 12. If the tributes didn’t die in the bloodbath in the cornucopia, hunger and thirst will for sure get them. Food is such a vital component to have a fighting chance in the games that if they had a steady supply of it, their chances of surviving and winning the games skyrockets. Also, asides from the obvious importance of food in the arena, the tributes also have to please the Capitol and the audiences. The whole point of the games is for the Capitol to show that they have full authority over the entire country and what they want should be followed at all costs as a flick of a switch can spell life or death for them. It wouldn’t be called a Game if at least one of the parties are happy with the outcomes. Lastly, the sheer idea of the other tributes hunting and trying to kill each other gives chill down their spines in all of them. Whatever happens, there is only 1 winner and 1 winner only. The tributes can do whatever they can to eliminate their opponents. If it means the slight assurance of winning the games, the tributes are to toughen-up and get blood on their hands.
Ultimately, “The Hunger Games” is a great book that can smartly relay human’s will to survive to its readers. From Katniss and her family withstanding her father`s death, to the citizens of the district barely sustaining their empty stomachs, up until Katniss and the other tributes’ quest to survive the games, Suzanne Collins made the story realistic and relatable to the the readers. “It is not the strongest of the species, nor the most intelligent that survives, it is the one that is the most adaptable to change” ~ Charles
