The essay “Our Secret” written by Susan Griffin was taken from a chapter in her book A Chorus of Stones: The Private Life of War. In “Our Secret,” Susan Griffin explains the repercussions of bottling up our emotions and the harm it can have on our mind and body in the long run. Laura Mishkin’s “The Problem with Being Hip”, an article published in The Daily, claims that in society people want so badly to be above mainstream culture that they’re isolating themselves and becoming their “image”. Mishkin lists numerous experiences she’s had with the youth that’ve been absorbed into the ironic subculture, and emphasizes the irony of how being ironic “is fitting in by proving you’re not trying to”. Furthermore, Mishkin analyzes how the at the root of this trend is insecurity, that being a “byproduct” of the social media makes people feel accepted but in reality, Mishkin asses, “alienates” those who don’t live ironically from those that do. Altogether, Mishkin drives her point home when she showcases how she too falls prey…

Researching nontraditional students allowed me to capture the thoughts and feelings of these students in regards to involvement outside of the classroom. This research will give the campus an opportunity to reach out to this student population when planning events and take into consideration some of the challenges faced by non-traditional students. Student organizations on campus can also learn how to increase participation and membership in the organization from the non-traditional student. A motif that haunts the months of college applications and preparation is the daunting idea of seniors entering into the "real world." An alleged, new realm of reality that discredits the validity of the last few years in high school, not to mention the three before that and all the experiences previously. This concept coincides seamlessly with the idea that college is a beacon of newfound adulthood. Even so, each student's differing personality, aspirations, culture and tribulations falsifies the belief that adulthood is that straightforward. Thus, in order to define the moment that marked my transition into adulthood, I must first define what being an adult means to me.…
There 's no doubt that I can relate and pity Susan Smith. She went through trauma, depression, and thoughts of suicide just because her life wasn 't perfect, or what she hoped it would 've been. Most of all, Susan and her husband, David, were going through a divorce. Divorcing is hard for both people, even if no one loves each other as much as before. Especially having young children who don 't understand the current situation makes it difficult, tiring, and more stress put onto the parents.…
Tier one is about building relationships with the students in the classroom, their parents, and the colleagues that you work with. While observing I noticed that Miss Reinee is in regular communication with parents through out the day through either e-mail, phone, text, or journals. She also invites parents in for lunch on a regular basis to visit with their student for lunch. Another observation was that she is very eager to help colleagues when they need her assistance. For instance, another teacher needed help with filling out an IEP…

This website also helps students explore different colleges and degree programs, realistic costs of college, and budgeting help. One of the key points in my research is the cost of attending school as an adult student.…
On a Tuesday evening two months into my junior year, I realized my life was changing. I was transitioning from child to adult in society’s eyes. I was working, driving, and taking more difficult classes to prepare for college. The more responsibilities I accepted, the more I was treated like an adult. It was not until two months later that I realized I was changing.…
My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…
After her explanation of her hardships I started to understand why she put such a emphasize on higher education. After reading the journal article “Older Adults and Higher Education. It gave me a better outlook on why some older adults were or are unable to purse getting some type of higher education. While reading the article some of the information matched my grandmothers life experiences. For example in the article it says, “Many older adults have remained in low- skill jobs for most of their lives.…
