There many different organizations and a plethora of different types of social services provided to people infected and affected by HIV around the world and one important component that makes up an effective service is its ability to sustain itself over time. As mentioned previously, HIV is an epidemic and in order to eradicate this disease it will take years of preventative education, easily accessible treatment, and support. A recent study by a working group on modeling of antiretroviral therapy monitoring strategies studied sustainability in Sub-Saharan Africa. Philip et al. (2015) wanted to determine if viral-load informed differentiated care would be a cost effective HIV treatment that …show more content…
One example of another way to create sustainability of a HIV service is to provide in service training to health workers (Burlew et al., 2014). (2015) presented a treatment and cost-efficiency analysis of HIV that provides a great example for how to analyze a service and determine which choices are the best option in the long run because diseases like HIV require continuous support in order to eventually end the …show more content…

This is important for two main reasons. The first reason being that the more money saved, the more money there is to use in the future to provide aid. The second reason cost-effectiveness research is important is because much of the funding for HIV related services in donated or raised by international organizations and governments. These organization will want to make sure that they are putting their money to the best use and if money is being wasted on less efficient practices, then the organization might be less likely to provide funding for the social service in the
