My father was known to be a heavy smoker since he was the age of twelve. He used to take cough drops and cough suppressant medicines to keep his smokers cough under control during the flu seasons, where smokers seem to be more susceptible to colds, due to weaker immune systems. Their bodies work twice as hard to keep the blood flowing. Aside from the fact that smoking affects the people living around them by second hand smoke, smokers themselves are at a higher risk of dying from lung cancer, ten times more likely than a non- smoker, and a pregnant mother who smokes, is at higher risk to give birth to a smaller, premature and unhealthy baby.
