The New York of the West Coast, the land of dreams and opportunities, the place where hopes come to thrive, because they know that one day, they too will eventually die. I found all this more after the first time that I watched “Sunset Boulevard”, the 1950 film about love, deception, greed, and the inevitable passing of time. To my thought, North by Northwest is Alfred Hitchcock's most charming film. It has an affable lead in Cary Grant, a hazardous, hot blonde in Eva Marie Saint and a super smooth scoundrel in type of the radiant James Manson. It has a gleaming script, marvelous set pieces and, since I'm obviously being alliterative and exciting score. It is a genuine great of Hollywood silver screen.…

World War II was occurring in Europe in the early 1940’s, and many European nations were either at war or under occupation. American film companies were taking notice of the conflict prior to U.S. involvement, and a number of companies decided to use their films as an implicit way to urge their fellow Americans to enter into the war; Michael Curtiz’s film Casablanca (1942) was no exception. In this film, Rick Blaine, an American expatriate, is a heartbroken casino owner in Morocco who fled Paris just before German occupation, but when his former love presents herself with her husband, a leader of the French Resistance, Rick takes certain actions that benefit the Allied war effort in Europe. Specifically regarding the final “flyaway scene”,…

The Beatles on the contrary, with their fast thinking and swift action are an iconic sign associated with: the future, energy and liveliness. The year was 1942, and Eastern nations were at war with each other, trying to keep Germany out of their beloved countries. America, however, stood at the side, with a neutrality proclamation clear in mind. Even with official neutrality, America started to lean towards helping the countries defend off Germany, ultimately fighting for basic human rights. Casablanca showcases a lone American, Rick, stuck in Casablanca, a French province at the time. The film was appealing to Americans, especially at the time of the war, because they were able to see a character that embodied the American spirit fighting through his spoken neutrality, into eventually giving in to the freedom cause.…
