Did you know that ninety two percent of all drugs that have gone through animal testing have proved to be utterly useless when used with human subjects? Ninety two percent. That is a ludicrously large number. Consider the amount of animals suffering for our personal benefit along with the ridiculous amount of money poured into funding this testing. Not to mention that contrary to a significant amount of peoples beliefs, there are several alternatives to animal testing. Taking these factors into account, do you still believe that animal testing is a legitimate cause? “If animal test subjects weren’t available to us we would have to test on our own kind.”This argument has been given time and time again. It is …show more content…
Moreover, of the tiny eight percent of successes that occurred, half were required to be relabelled because of side effects that weren’t noted throughout animal testing. When one picks up on these statistics, it really makes them question what exactly makes people think this is worth the torment that these animals must endure. Many argue that “Many experiments are not painful at all to the animal subjects, therefore they are justified tests.” Did you know that in the United States there is a sole law that governs the hospitality of animals during the testing process on them within labs? This law is called the “Animal Welfare Act”. This act states that animals may be forcibly restrained, burned, shocked, starved, poisoned, brain-damaged, and addicted to drugs. None of these things are banned in any experiment whatsoever, despite how much pain the animals may be in. The law does not even require painkillers or any pain-nulling drugs to be used at all. Since this act specifically does not include birds, rats, or any cold blooded animals; ninety five percent of animals used in labs do not even have the minimal protection this act gives at
